Event/Race Day/Organization Volunteer

MGK is a community supported organization that is only successful because of the hard work and dedication of many volunteers! Even if you have little or no racing experience we could still use help in a variety of areas.  Below are some examples of “odd jobs” where we currently use volunteers and could always use an extra hand.

Board Members- Any person who is dedicated to the success of Memorial Go-Kart, attends monthly or bi-monthly meetings regularly and expresses interest in filling a board member opening.
Committee Leads/Members- We have a variety of committees. The Kart Committee is responsible for kart/racing related items. The Scholarship Committee is responsible for Scholarship Applications, the selection process and awards.  The Event Committee is responsible for our Memorial Tribute Event planning.  The Volunteer Committee is in charge of the signup genius and entering/scheduling events we need volunteers for. As we grow there will always be the opportunity for committees to grow or new ones to be formed!
Mentors- Any person with mechanical skills or racing skills who can assist teams with motors, repairs or just offer racing advice to racers and teams in the pit area on race nights!
Photographer/Videographer- Person needed to take photos during racing and possibly at other events throughout the year. Perfect for a student and/or possible credit for intern type requirements.
On Track Safety Crew- Helps to set up the racing track, is inside the track watching a corner during racing and helping if an accident occurs. This crew helps kids on the track if needed and regularly gives racers support in the pit area after racing.
Pit Area Line-Up- Helps to line the karts up by number and checks that belts and safety equipment is in good order before going on the track.
Pit Area Lin-Up Board- Helps to set the designated starting lineups on boards for the announcer and tower.
Tower Scoring- All done by computer transponder scoring.  Many of these volunteers start with a love of computers and no racing experience.  The tower monitors lineups throughout the race and calls down to the track if a re-line up is needed after a caution.  After a race is complete the tower sends the results to the pit area to be used for other lineups.
Motor/Transponder Check Out- Teams need to check out a motor and transponder for each event from our MGK enclosed trailer.  This person(s) is in charge of making sure the trailer is open and ready when the pit gates open. They monitor that check outs are documented and items are returned when racing is complete.
Food Concession Volunteer- Helps the Pit Concession Lead on race nights. Duties can include taking orders and collecting money. Usually this person is busy before racing and after cleanup can watch the final feature races.
Pit Gate “Security”- This person has a good view of the track, but makes sure that anyone entering the pit are from the grandstands has a wristband, or is just going to the Pit Concessions area.
MGK Apparel Sales- We sell shirts in the grandstands on race nights.  Usually this person is in charge of setting up, collecting and recording sales, and taking down.

There are many other positions such as Announcer, Pit Shack, Flagging and Pace Kart Driver that are currently filled, but we are always looking for backups!

Team Volunteer

MGK teams and racers are required to volunteer at MGK fundraisers and events throughout the year.  Racers will have to sign up for the minimum requirement of volunteer hours or shifts in order to participate in MGK racing events.

Teams should SIGN UP for duties at our Racer Registration in spring.  Hours or shifts required will depend on how many spots we need to fill for our scheduled events.  That # requirement will be announced before registration, but traditionally amounts to roughly 8-10 hours per racer per season.  Because the majority of our racers are minors, Parents and family members are often required to assist racers with their volunteer duties.

In order to streamline our signups online we use a free version of signupgenius.
